preview for A Look Back at Alex Trebek's Incredible Career

Season 38 of Jeopardy! is officially in the books, but the quiz show is only getting started.

Apart from Jeopardy! returning with new episodes on September 12 and the spinoff Celebrity Jeopardy! debuting on September 25, the trivia show also has other exciting tournaments in the pipeline. Shortly after reports confirmed Jeopardy! legend Ken Jennings and Big Bang Theory alum Mayim Bialik as the new permanent co-hosts, Ken took the opportunity to reveal thrilling news about upcoming competitions.

“I’m so excited about the Second Chance tournament and Tournament of Champions coming in the fall,” Ken tweeted on July 27. “An unprecedented lineup of super-champs…and a few surprises. If you’re a Jeopardy! fan, even a casual one, you’re not going to want to miss this.”

That’s right — Ken confirmed that the 2022 Tournament of Champions is arriving sometime soon. Jeopardy! fans might remember that a few months ago Amy Schneider spilled that this year’s competition would be airing in November. Ken didn’t share further details at the time, but he did retweet the news.

Jeopardy! executive producer Michael Davies also shared that Ken will be hosting the 2022 Tournament of Champions and then the inaugural Second Chance competition. Though Michael stopped short of giving fans a premiere date for the special TV events, the Tournament of Champions competition might air during the second week of November if it follows past schedules.

Reacting to Ken’s exciting news, Jeopardy! fans flocked to his Twitter comments section with celebratory messages. “I’m so happy for you and the show. I am ecstatic you’re doing the TOC and I hope that is always the case,” one person wrote. “Congrats Ken! Well deserved! You are doing a great job!! Keep it up!!! Gonna cheer for you, from Vancouver with love! 🥰❤,” another added. “It is going to be an Epic TOC!!!” a different fan said.

In case you’re wondering what the Second Chance Tournament is, Ken helped announce the new competition back in February. According to Michael, only Jeopardy! contestants who appeared since the last ToC will be considered to have “a second shot.” The Second Chance Tournament will also be “[slotted] in right before the ToC.”

At this point, not much else is known about the 2022 Tournament of Champions or the Second Chance Tournament. But we do know that Jeopardy! fans will get to enjoy months of Ken on the quiz show from September to December.
