preview for Nope – official trailer (Universal Pictures)

Jordan Peele is back! Peele’s third directorial effort, Nope—which he also wrote and produced—hit theaters on Friday, July 22. The highly anticipated movie gears more towards the thriller side of the heart-racing scale of genres, instead of horror, which his last two movies, Get Out and Us, were celebrated for. (How celebrated? Oscar-level-celebration.)

Reviews have been capital-G good, and social media has been frenzied with adoration for the work. But how can you, dear reader, watch it? Find out below.

What’s the buzz around Nope?

Well, for all the reasons listed above, and the fact that it had the biggest first weekend box office opening for a horror film all year, it’s strong. The film stars Daniel Kaluuya, who worked with Peele on his first movie, Get Out, and Keke Palmer.

The cast has been very secretive in interviews about what the movie is actually about to keep the suspense growing and the ending un-spoiled. (We will do the same for you here.) “I wanted to create a spectacle,” Peele said in an interview with Fandango. “So I set my sights on the great UFO story. And the movie itself deals with spectacle, and the good and bad that come from this idea of attention. It’s a horror epic, but it has some points in it that are meant to elicit a very audible reaction in the theater.”

Where can I watch Nope?

This is a movie that looks insanely good on a big screen—just wait until you see these night scenes—and, for now, that’s the only place you’ll be able to catch it. However, since Nope was distributed by Universal Pictures, that means it could be available for at-home streaming as soon as 45 days after its theatrical release. Prepare to hit the couch with popcorn sometime in fall 2022. Just don’t expect to ever look at the sky the same.
