preview for Diego Luna's Red Carpet Evolution

Something incredible happened when fans saw Rogue One: A Star Wars Story back in 2016, which showed how a bunch of rebels stole the plans for the Death Star. Faithful followers of the galaxy far, far away didn’t… say much? Which, as you may very well know, means that they liked it. Reddit could breath a sigh of relief, for once.

Always one to lean into something its audience mildly approves of, Disney+ ordered two, 12-episode-long seasons of Andor, which will serve as a prequel to Rogue One. (You want a prequel for your prequel? Star Wars has your back.) The series will follow Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor, a fan-favorite hero who plays a serious role as a leader and a pilot in Rogue One—a film we won’t spoil here, just in case you want to watch Andor and Rogue One in chronological order, someday. Before we get to Andor’s extended trailer, which just dropped, check out Disney’s official plot description for the series, to get you up to speed:

Andor will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

The new preview for Andor, which you can view below, promises a thrilling look at the Resistance in its early stages. The footage shows the Empire not-so-slowly asserting its dominance in the galaxy. We glimpse Cassian Andor behind the wheel of a ship, not looking as fly as Mando and Grogu, of course, but formidable nonetheless. Plus, we even see Forest Whitaker’s fan-favorite Saw Gerrera appear in the trailer, who is surely one of many returning friends Andor will bring back to surprise us. Andor will debut its first three episodes on September 21, 2022.

In the meantime, check out what Luna told StarWars.com about putting back on his Rebel digs. “Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” says Luna. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”
