Sept. 23 (UPI)– Melvin Van Peebles, a prominent director, star and dad of filmmaker Mario Van Peebles, has actually passed away at the age of 89.

Melvin Van Peebles passed away at his house with household on Tuesday, his child and the Criterion Collection validated on Twitter.

A cause of death was not divulged.
